When Spike Jonze asks the question “what makes us human?” he uses a robot to strike at the heart of our emotions. Sheldon is apparently in design more human than the people that populate LA in this parallel reality. He falls in love. It costs him. He still loves.
I could watch it over and over again, both for the impressive technical aspects of this film and the storytelling mastery.
“In approximately 30 minutes, Jonze achieves more depth and complexity than most directors achieve in two hours, for his little short explores many adult themes, such as loneliness, love, living life to the fullest, and the kindest of all human gestures-donating body parts to save others. How much would you give to the person you love most? Would you give everything for the sake of another soul?” — Wael Khairy
